A recent inquiry into the progress in implementing the High Court’s 2009 directive to prevent sexual harassment in educational institutions revealed that the limited implementation of the policy still leaves most students afraid to file complaints.
If a student faces sexual harassment in an educational institution, it is the responsibility of a teacher to assist him through a proper investigation with the help of the Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee.
It is important to inform teachers about what to do to prevent sexual harassment and bullying and to form and effectively manage sexual harassment prevention committees in educational institutions. Safeguarding training is required in every school. Through this training, along with awareness, it is possible to form a committee to prevent sexual harassment according to the High Court’s policy and provide assistance in formulating strict policies against all harassment in educational institutions.
